Princeton, NJ takes up the call to PNC: Get out of MTR, support green energy in Appalachia!

PRINCETON, N.J., JUNE 21.  Princeton Quakers Ann Yasuhara and Laura Hawkins organized EQAT’s first PNC challenge outside of Philadelphia.  The site was PNC’s branch on Nassau Street, the main street of Princeton.

“Come listen to a story,” Earth Quakers invited pedestrians while leafleting them.  When a critical mass formed, we took turns holding a giant “storybook” and telling the story of PNC’s support for mountaintop removal, while others held giant photos showing West Virginia mountains and what solar and wind alternatives look like.

Most pedestrians who stopped registered surprise and disapproval of PNC’s choice.  One truck suddenly swerved out of traffic to stop by the sidewalk, so the air conditioning repairmen inside could engage in enthusiastic conversation about mountaintop removal.  Nearly two dozen people signed postcards to PNC expressing their concern and indicating interest in staying in touch with the campaign to Bank Like Appalachia Matters (BLAM!).
